Jeonbuk Hyundai fell short against Daegu FC at home.
Jeonbuk fell to a 1-3 defeat against Daegu in the 32nd round of the Hana OneQ K League 2023 at Jeonju World Cup Stadium at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
Jeonbuk’s Final B fears became a reality as they fell to their knees with a loss rather than a win against Daegu.
Daegu, on the other hand, earned a valuable three points against Jeonbuk, giving them a green light to advance to Final A.
Jeonbuk deployed a 5-4-1 formation. Gustavo formed the front line, with Moon Sun-min, Meng Seong-woong, Boateng, and Han Kyowon in the second line. Jung Woo-jae, Koo Ja-ryong, Petrasek, Hong Jeong-ho, and Ahn Hyun-beom formed the defense, with Jung Min-ki in goal.
Daegu went with a 3-4-3 formation. Edgar, Vasellus, and Ko Jae-hyun led the attack, while Hong Chul, Lee Jin-yong, Park Se-jin, and Jang Sung-won formed the midfield. The defense was made up of Cho Jin-woo, Hong Jung-woon, and Kim Jin-hyuk, while Choi Young-eun wore the goalkeeping gloves.
The balance of the game was broken early on by the away team, Daegu. Just 14 seconds in, Ko Jae-hyun scored the first goal with a right-footed shot after receiving a pass from Edgar. They capitalized on the momentum and widened the gap with another goal. In the seventh minute of the first half, a deflected shot by Vaselus found the back of the net and gave Jeonbuk a 2-0 lead.
After being down by two goals, Jeonbuk fought back. In the 18th minute, Gustavo connected with a cross from Jung Woo-jae, but it went wide of the goal. Then, in the 24th minute, they opened the scoring. After Han Kyo-won’s shot hit the post and flowed into a second ball, Boateng struck a simple mid-range shot into Daegu’s goal to keep the chase alive.
Daegu pulled out their substitutions. In the 30th minute, they took off Vassellus and brought on Lee Geun-ho for a tactical change. Jeonbuk continued to pull the reins. In the 37th minute, they had a chance. Ahn Hyun-beom connected with a left-footed shot from the edge of the box, but he put his head down as it went wide of the goal. In the 39th minute, Gustavo continued to knock on Daegu’s door with a rebounded shot.
