Atlanta Braves’ “Freak” Ronald Acuña Jr. (26) has completed the unbelievable feat of hitting 40 home runs and stealing 70 bases in a single season.

The 26-year-old went 2-for-5 with a home run, two doubles, two runs scored, one RBI, and two stolen bases in the leadoff spot in the lineup against the Chicago Cubs at Truiste Park in Atlanta, Georgia, USA, on Monday.

Most notably, Acuña Jr. stole two more bases to reach 70, as he had 68 prior to the game.

Having previously surpassed the 40-homer plateau to become just the fifth player in Major League Baseball history to join the 40-40 club, Aquino Jr. now has an unprecedented 40-70 record after going 30-60.

Currently ranked second in batting average (.336), fourth in home runs (41), first in stolen bases (70), and first in slugging percentage (.414), Acuña Jr. is a strong candidate for the National League’s Most Valuable Player (MVP) award this season.

After being silent in his first three at-bats, Acuña Jr. led off the bottom of the eighth with a single to right. He then stole second base for his 69th stolen base of the season. Aji Albies followed with a single to center field, scoring Acuña Jr. to tie the game at 3-3.

With the game tied 4-4 heading into extra innings and Atlanta trailing 4-5 in the bottom of the 10th, Acuña Jr. stepped up once again. With runners on first and second, Acuña Jr. singled through the right side to put runners on first and second to tie the game once again.
