Can Son Heung-min’s Tottenham Hotspur overcome the away jinx against Arsenal?
The sixth round of the English Premier League (EPL) will be played between Arsenal and Tottenham at the Emirates Stadium in London, England, at 10 p.m. ET on Thursday night. It’s a rivalry match between two North London-based teams.
Both teams are in good form this season. They are both unbeaten with four wins and one draw (13 points). Spurs are second in the league, three points ahead of Arsenal on goal difference, and Arsenal is fourth. They are also on a winning streak. Since their first-round loss to Brentford, they’ve won four straight, beating Manchester United, Bournemouth, Burnley, and Sheffield United. Arsenal caught Everton after the Manchester United game and are on a three-game winning streak after a 4-0 win over Eindhoven in the UEFA Champions League (UCL).
Recent history favors the Toffees. Spurs have three wins and four losses in seven EPL games against Arsenal under Mikel Arteta. If you narrow it down to the last five games, they’re just 1-4 against the Gunners. Last season, they suffered a double. There is also an Arsenal away jinx. Spurs haven’t beaten Arsenal in the league since November 2010. They did manage an away win in the League Cup in the 2018-2019 season thanks to a Son Heung-min goal, but they have now lost three consecutive games against Arsenal in the league.
However, Son has plenty of good memories against the Gunners. He has five goals and two assists in 18 career games against the Gunners. In the 2021-2022 season, when he was on top of the scoring charts, he had two goals and one assist against the Gunners. Despite failing to score in two games last season, Son is currently the most reliable man for Tottenham. He scored his first, second, and third goals of the season against Burnley last time out. He was quiet against Sheffield Wednesday with a ten-man defense, but against Arsenal, he should be able to find the back of the net.
A real test for manager Enzi Postecoglou. Postecoglou took over the reins at Tottenham this summer and transplanted a style of attacking soccer known as “angry ball” to Spurs. 스포츠토토 This season, Spurs have been a different team offensively, scoring two or more goals in every league game. This includes a 2-0 win over Manchester United. However, if they can catch last season’s runner-up, Arsenal, who are in good form at the start of the season, they will be recognized once again.
After Arsenal, Tottenham will face Liverpool in the league. It’s up to the Gunners to decide if they need to stop and do some maintenance after a four-game winning streak or continue their upward trend.
