Samsung used a bullpen day for the third consecutive game against the Suwon KT on March 31.
The day began with a twist when foreign pitcher Taylor Widener, who had been announced as the starter on March 31, was replaced by Hong Jung-woo due to cold symptoms. On that day, Samsung used five pitchers, including Hong Jung-woo, right-hander Kim Dae-woo, left-hander Lee Seung-hyun, Woo Kyu-min, and Kim Tae-hoon. The team lost 4-6.
Against the Daegu NC on the 1st, it was effectively a bullpen day as starter Choi Chae-heung fell apart early with four runs in two innings. Jang Pil-joon, Lee Jae-ik, Woo Kyu-min, Noh Gun-woo, and Kim Si-hyun provided the offense. They were swept by NC, falling to 0-10.
Samsung tried to bounce back with its “blue-blooded ace” Won Tae-in in the home game against NC on Feb. 2, but rain poured down in the top of the third inning, causing an 88-minute rain delay. Won lasted two innings before giving way to left-hander Lee Jae-ik. Samsung fell to 1-5 and suffered its third straight loss.
Manager Park Jin-man explained the reason for the early change, saying, “Two years ago, I pitched again in the same situation as yesterday and suffered a major injury, so the player was under a lot of pressure.”
After three consecutive bullpen days, Samsung had to rely solely on Day 3 starter David Buchanan. After skipping one start due to a sore throat, Buchanan, who made his first start in 12 days against Hanwha in Daejeon on March 22, pitched 6⅔ innings of one-run ball with five hits, two walks and four strikeouts to snap Samsung’s three-game losing streak. He had his moments, but he kept the damage to a minimum with seasoned command of his pitches and showed good control of his velocity.
Of Buchanan’s 97 total pitches on the day, 65 were strikes. He topped out at 151 mph and utilized his arsenal effectively, including a cut fastball, changeup, curveball, and two-seam fastball. Samsung’s bats came alive in the fourth inning, scoring six runs after falling behind 0-1.
With the 6-1 victory over NC, Samsung snapped a three-game losing streak that began on March 31 against KT in Suwon. Much of the credit for the win goes to Buchanan, who played the role of ace perfectly to extend the winning streak and break the losing streak. 카지노사이트
After the game, Buchanan said, “We’ve had a lot of bullpen pitching lately, so I knew I had to pitch long innings. Even if I gave up more runs than I pitched, I thought about throwing a long inning with fewer pitches,” Buchanan said after the game. “I had good communication with catcher (Lee) Byung-heon, and thanks to the fielders, I was able to finish the inning with minimal runs.”
Meanwhile, Park Jin-man said, “Buchanan showed the quality of an ace when he came back healthy. His ability to save runs in crunch time gave the entire team a sense of security and helped us win the game.”
